Frequently Asked Questions

Six common questions about shipping luggage to or from Japanese airports and hotels. Jump straight to /quote for a live price.

Which size should I choose for a 29-inch suitcase?+
Size 160 (sum of length+width+height ≤ 160 cm, weight ≤ 25 kg). A 26-inch usually fits size 140, a 24-inch size 120, and a 21-inch size 100.
Will the hotel refuse to accept the delivery?+
Major chains (APA, Toyoko Inn, Dormy Inn, Mitsui Garden, Nishitetsu Inn) accept pre-notified luggage forwarding. Refrigerated items and ID-restricted parcels are exceptions. See the hotel forwarding policy table on /quote for details.
How long does delivery take?+
Within Honshu: next day. Hokkaido ↔ Kyushu crossings: 1–2 days. Okinawa routes are air-only, 2–4 days. Yamato and Yu-Pack deliver in about the same time, and both are equally affected by weather delays.
Can I ship luggage larger than size 160?+
Yamato caps at size 160. For bigger items, switch to 'Yamato Bin' (freight-class, 2–3 days) or split into two packages. Yu-Pack also caps at size 160 with a 30 kg weight limit.
Can I drop off luggage directly at the airport?+
Major international airports (NRT, HND, KIX, CTS, FUK, NGO, KIJ, SDJ, and more) have Yamato drop-off counters, most open 24/7 or from early morning to late night. Yu-Pack uses on-site post office counters with shorter hours.
I can't find the route I need.+
Visit /quote and pick any two of the 47 prefectures for an instant fare. Both Yamato and Yu-Pack have a complete 47×47 matrix.
