0 itemsJanuary leaves Gunma with one usable plan: get into the mountains for a snow-season onsen stay. River and air activities are all shut and roads depend on the snow, so keep transfers few and luggage light.
February
1 itemsFebruary straddles two seasons: plum blossom opening on the flat around Takasaki and Haruna, snow-view onsen still running up in the hills. Combining them means a winter climb between low and high ground, so leave slack.
March
1 itemsMarch closes out Gunma's winter. Plum around Takasaki and Haruna is in its later stretch and snow-view onsen stays are near their end, so go early in the month — or give March to another prefecture.
April
5 itemsApril switches Gunma's outdoor season on: bungee and canyoning in Minakami, SUP and canoeing on the Tone River, paragliding at Kusatsu, glamping reopening, plus Tatebayashi's azalea festival down on the plain. Water is still cold — bring layers.
May
5 itemsMay is Gunma's easiest month to plan: Tatebayashi azaleas in their later run, all the Minakami river activities, Kusatsu paragliding and glamping open, weather steady. The catch is Golden Week — book activities and lodging well ahead.
June
5 itemsJune brings the rainy season. Paragliding, bungee, canyoning, Tone River SUP and glamping all still run, but weather cancels trips, so keep a spare day. Tone River ayu comes into season, the one new addition this month.
July
6 itemsJuly makes Gunma a heat escape: Minakami canyoning and Tone River water activities cool you down, Kusatsu sits high enough for tolerable nights, glamping is open. Blueberry picking runs only this month, ayu is in season. Book early — school holidays.
August
9 itemsAugust is Gunma's fullest and hardest month to book. Maebashi and Takasaki each hold a major fireworks night, Kusatsu runs its international music festival, outdoor activities are all open and Numata apples start. Maebashi's fireworks are advance-ticket seating only.
September
7 itemsSeptember is the value pick: outdoor activities still open but the summer crowds gone, so slots are easier. Gunma's new-crop rice starts coming in, Numata apples are in season, Tone River ayu is ending. Autumn colour hasn't begun.
October
8 itemsOctober is Gunma's autumn-colour month and one of its strongest reasons to come: Tanigawa-dake turns first, the Watarase Keikoku Railway only late in the month, with Numata apples and new-crop rice alongside. Weekends mean crowds and traffic — go early or midweek.
November
7 itemsNovember splits in two. Early on you can still catch autumn colour at Tanigawa-dake and along the Watarase Keikoku Railway, with Numata apples; later the paragliding, canyoning, bungee, river activities and glamping close for the season. Front-load the trip.
December
0 itemsDecember is a quiet month in Gunma. Snow-view onsen is the only thing running, and only once winter properly sets in; before that the outdoor season is over and autumn colour done, so lodging and transport stay easy.
